VW 280mm Brake Hats

We now offer the heart of our two piece rotors kit seperately, so you can source the Wilwood rotors yourself. Build your own 280mm (11″) lightweight two piece rotors setup with this pair of brake hats.

The Tech-53 280mm VW hats are made out of Aircraft certified 6061-T6 alloy and finished in a black e-coat. Aluminum hats dissipate heat more effectively than the cast‑iron OEM centers. They will protect your front wheel bearings from harmful heat transfer.

Does it fit my car?

It will fit any VW MK1 / MK2 / MK3. When paired to the right Wilwood rotor, this kit will replicate a VW Corrado G60 rotor (part number 535 615 301).

What are the benefits of two‑piece rotors?

• Lower mass and inertia:
  Reduces the energy required to slow the rotor, resulting in quicker braking response and improved resistance to fade during repeated high‑temperature stops.
• Reduced unsprung and rotating mass:
  Lightens the load on suspension components.

What's included?

This kit includes two hats and the necessary hardware to mount them on a Wilwood rotor. No rotor is included.

What Wilwood rotors do I need?

These hats are meant to be installed on the following Wilwood rotors. Keep in mind that these rotors come with a 0.810" width instead of the 0.866" OEM width.

• 160‑12892 — ideal for a race car
• 160‑5840 — suited for a street car
• 160‑7099BK / 160‑7100BK — perfect for a show car

The rotor assembly weighs in at 3.830kg, mounted. Stock OEM G60 rotor come in at over 5.8Kg. So over 34% weight reduction. The slotted and drilled rotors are directional and come in one right, and one left per set. Other options are not directional.
